It is my strong belief that mines, which may be exploded by the presence or proximity of a person, are morally unacceptable. I fully support the convention on the prohibition of the use, stockpiling, transfer and production on anti-personnel mines and on their destruction.
Through their signature, governments promise to officially adopt and ratify the Ottawa Treaty and to comply with all of its terms. These include support for global demining work and assistance for mine victims. Through my signature on the People's treaty, I commit to working to ensure that governments keep these promises.
3954 people have signed the treaty.

Holding the post-conflict injuries aside the very effectiveness of landmines are poor at best and thus should be irradicated. Other methods and tactics more effective in warfare and so only their ease of production and secrecy of agressor identity keeps landmines in use. This is the reason children and adults alike in agricutrual and pedal societies lose limbs or their lives. Working to stem the mass production within their countries of origin will the be the only way to turn the tide of tragedy in the future. Even with minimal resources individuals will improvise, as the US is seeing in Iraq, and there will always be death and injuries in war zones but energizing governemts to change productions policies to disallow landmine production will deter the blanket coverage still waiting for a anonomys wayward foot today. |

My young friend wanted to know about landmines. I told her about the campaign, and its technical aspects and its diabolical nature. She is a sensitive person. she wants to write a story in first person from a land mine! it is not its option to kill or maim somebody. Its redemption seems to be only in harming somebody.. that is if the device had a feeling soul... etc... I was touched...whiles she is at it i thought I will join the campaign. I am aware and i am an active pacifist. 23rd June 2007 |

I oppose the use of landmines, cluster munitions, or other types of weapons which are intended to be, or that can inadvertently be, directed against civilian populations or that are left in place after military conflict ceases thereby endangering a returning civilian population. |

May the production, sale, purchase, and use of land mines be seen by all people in all countries as totally unacceptable.
May every government, military person, government official, military planner, military strategist, military advisor, business person, weapons sales person, weapons designer, or weapons manufacturer who currently condones or finds it acceptable and reasonable or necessary to produce and promote the use of land mines achieve the capacity to recognize the horrific and inhumane destructiveness of land mines and then choose to not only stop their personal support of these devices, but to vigorously protest their very existence. |

Maybe the governments and manufacturers who don't support a ban should pay a visit to those most affected by them. Then they might see the damage that is caused by these horrific things. |

There is a reason why we are the only creatures that have not evolved to benefit our species, because we have less and less instinct and more free will, in which the survival of our species is actually the destruction of our species. Wars are nothing more than assertion of power, yet when they are over...remnants such as landmines always remain, and the war is never over. Thus proving the past always comes back to haunt you... |
