People

It is my strong belief that mines, which may be exploded by the presence or proximity of a person, are morally unacceptable. I fully support the convention on the prohibition of the use, stockpiling, transfer and production on anti-personnel mines and on their destruction.

Through their signature, governments promise to officially adopt and ratify the Ottawa Treaty and to comply with all of its terms. These include support for global demining work and assistance for mine victims. Through my signature on the People's treaty, I commit to working to ensure that governments keep these promises.

3956 people have signed the treaty.

My dearest friends:
"It's not a single great heroic deed that defines
who you really are. It's the little things you do
day by day that counts."
Let's keep working on this the landmines problem.
Personally I have bought the CD called "Zero Landmines" produced by one of my favorite musicians, Ryuichi Samamoto. My 1,400 yen for this CD is going to be used to help get rid of those evil landmines planted in the ground of our mother earth. They've been being hidden for years and years and have been waiting to do harm to anyone who steps on it.
I'm not gonna stop talking about this issue. I'm gonna keep telling my friends that I do care about those innocent people whose lives have been hugely changed by those nasty landmines. I'm gonna keep telling the world that I'll have so many sleepless nights until the day all the landmines are removed from the ground and

I just watched a documentary that chronicled the life and efforts of one man's campaign to lead the cause of banning landmines in his home country of Cambodia. He makes wheel chairs for disabled cambodians that have fallen victim to these awful inventions of distruction. He himself is the victim of a mine which blew off both of his legs...though I don't remember his name, I know that he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997. His example was nothing more than inspiring. I realize how truly priveleged my life really is. The people of all countries ravaged by war and mines deserve the support of all of us. My heart goes out for all those affected by these terrible weapons so indecriminant and devastating. I am angered by this countries stance. How can we as a nation turn our backs on the innocent of this world that are so affected by these weapons? I cry for the hurting and oppressed people that have had to be

I think the use of landmines should be stopped everywhere. Any weapon that continues to injure and kill after wartime in a time of peace is completely unacceptable. War is terrible and I understand the need for national defense, but it is irresponsible to use weapons that kill indiscriminately and even after a war is over.

Our President and former President should be ashamed over their refusal to sign the landmine treaty. How would they feel if their children or other loved ones had to fear for their lives every time they walked out their door. Our country has become complacent regarding the safety of other folks around the world because we do not have much to fear. Our maybe since most of these people are a different color, we find them to be dispensable? Shame on us!
