People

It is my strong belief that mines, which may be exploded by the presence or proximity of a person, are morally unacceptable. I fully support the convention on the prohibition of the use, stockpiling, transfer and production on anti-personnel mines and on their destruction.

Through their signature, governments promise to officially adopt and ratify the Ottawa Treaty and to comply with all of its terms. These include support for global demining work and assistance for mine victims. Through my signature on the People's treaty, I commit to working to ensure that governments keep these promises.

3956 people have signed the treaty.

As funds raised from this year's 40 Hour Famine are being partly directed to Landmines clearance programs in Cambodia I have become very interested in the subject and keen to learn what I can and to

Since the Israeli withdrawal from South Lebanon on 24 May 2000, 11 people died and more than 80 have lost one or more of their extremities. The majority of the victims are young people under 16 year of age.
Israel Forces left more than 130,000 mines in our land, according to UN reports. The government of Israel has refused to turn in the maps for these minefields to either the Lebanese government or to the UN Forces In Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Today, another victim fell, a 38 year old farmer and a father of 5 children was killed by an Israeli anti-tank mine while plowing his land with his tractor.
How many people should die or be maimed before the world wake up to this daily massacre of our people?!
Please do something to completely ban the usage of this devastating killing machine!!!

Thanks to PHR, the USCBL and the ICBL teams for organizing an amazing "Ban Landmines Week" in D.C. from May 5 - 11. We had over 400 campaigners from
46 states and 75 countries in Washington, D.C. to
urge the USA to accede to the MBT. I was amazed that
one Congressional staffer we met with during lobbying
on the Hill was NOT aware that the US has NOT signed the Mine Ban Treaty. We have much work to do to inform people that there are STILL anti-personnel mines in 88 countries around the world that STILL kill or maim up to 70 people per day. There were NEW mine casualties in 71 countries over the past 18 months. NOW is the time for the USA and 53 other countries which have not signed to accede to the Mine Ban Treaty.
BAN MINES! HELP SURVIVORS! JOIN THE MINE BAN TREATY!

This world has come to a point where it doesnt respect human life anymore. It is horrible the lack of consideration that people show towards eachother. The governments, of all should understand that Peace will only come with respect for human life.
