United Nations

Every year, there is a United Nations General Assembly resolution in support of the total ban on antipersonnel landmines and the Mine Ban Treaty. The text of the resolutions and voting records are available online in the website of the UN Department for Disarmament Affairs.

  • In 2006, UNGA resolution 61/84 received 161 votes in favour, none against and 17 countries abstained.
  • In 2005, UNGA resolution 60/80, introduced by Austria, received 158 votes in favour, none against and 17 countries abstained.
  • In 2004, UNGA resolution 59/84 received 157 votes in favour, none against and 22 countries abstained.
  • In 2003, UNGA resolution 58/53, introduced by Thailand, received 153 votes in favour, none against and 23 countries abstained.
  • In 2002, UNGA resolution 57/74, introduced by Belgium, received 143 votes in favour, none against and 23 countries abstained.
  • In 2001, UNGA resolution 56/24M, introduced by Nicaragua, received 138 votes in favour, none against and 19 countries abstained.
  • In 2000, UNGA resolution 55/33V, introduced by Norway, received 143 votes in favour, none against and 22 countries abstained.
  • In 1999, UNGA resolution 54/54 B, introduced by Mozambique, received 139 in favour, one against and 20 abstained.
  • In 1998, UNGA resolution 53/77 N, introduced by Canada, received 147 in favour, none against and 21 abstained.
  • In 1997, UNGA resolution 52/38 A, received 142 in favour, none against and 18 abstained.
