MOVIE REVIEW: No Man's Land

By Mirza Muminovic

Probably even Danis Tanovic did not expect such a great success while working on his movie No Man's Land. The latest award for best screenplay in European Film Festival in Berlin comes just after a dozen others, including that one from International Film Festival in Cannes.

The movie, full of all different kinds of contrasts and disharmonies, tells us a story of two soliders, a Bosnian and a Serb, who find themselves trapped in No Man's Land, a trench between frontlines. Next to them is an injured Bosnian who is lying on a mine set by an other Serb soldier. If he
moves, the mine could kill them all. Soon, everyone is involved in the situation, including UN soldiers and their heavy burocracy, international press...

In short, this is a story about simple people caught in the jaws of war. In addition to that, it is full of good old Bosnian humor which will make you laugh when you maybe should cry. But this is not just a story about Bosnian war. This is a story which could happen in any war at any place. And, as in
any war, there are no winners.
