28 July 2003 Archived Entry: "ACTION: International Youth Day is 12 August!"

Tuesday, 12 August 2003 is International Youth Day. In 1999 the United Nations passed a resolution designating 12 August every year as International Youth Day. This is a time to reflect on how far we as youth have come in making sure that our voices are heard and our needs met.

To celebrate this day, take action against landmines in India and Pakistan by signing the Youth Against War Treaty. Show the world that young people are against mine use! For more information about the Youth Against War Treaty, including downloadable signature collection sheets, visit www.icbl.org/youth/yaw/ For more information about International Youth Day visit www.un.org/esa/socdev/unyin/iyouthday/iyd2003.htm.

Hi.
My name is Sarah Thomas, and I am 15 years old. I live in Western Australia. This is the first time I have seen this site, and was referred by an article in the World Vision Action Network's magazine 'Action News'. As an Australian I do not have a close connection with the issue of landmines, but it is a problem that concerns me greatly. I think awareness is part of the problem, as it is easy for people in developed countries to ignore the danger and suffering that many people have to deal with. Landmines are terrible devices that should definately be banned forever.

Since dacades thousand of innocent people have been killed due to landmines. I would like to demand landmine companies totally banned, they don,t have righ to kill the people earning the money killing the people.
