The Governance Board of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines - Cluster Munition Coalition (ICBL-CMC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Tamar Gabelnick as incoming ICBL-CMC Director. She will officially take up her role as of 1 September.

Tamar is well placed to contribute to ICBL-CMC's growth and success, having previously worked with the organization from 2005 through 2014.

She has extensive experience in advocacy, policy development, and management in humanitarian disarmament, human rights, and health, working with both NGOs and international organizations. She has worked previously with the organization as Treaty Implementation Director with ICBL, and subsequently, Policy Director for the ICBL-CMC.

Her experience includes serving as Director of the Arms Sales Monitoring Project at the Federation of American Scientists, a consultant on policy and advocacy to UNAIDS and WHO, and Policy and Advocacy Advisor at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

"My professional career spans over 25 years, but some of the happiest and most fulfilling moments were spent with ICBL-CMC," she said.

"I want to see the campaign continue to welcome new people with fresh energy and diverse backgrounds while ensuring the engagement of longstanding members with their incredible experience and commitment, and for both groups to meet and learn from each other. I welcome reaching out to as well to new diplomats and donors to reinforce the importance of civil society-states partnerships.”

Under Tamar's leadership, ICBL-CMC will continue to search for creative ways to ensure the voices of those still suffering from the impact of indiscriminate weapons continue to ring loudly in the ears of decision-makers and see that research, advocacy, and outreach have a real impact in stopping the ongoing use of landmines and cluster munitions.

Tamar has a Master’s Degree in International and Public Affairs from Princeton University, a Masters in International Relations from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vassar College.
